Half the Year is Over
My first free offer experience was Welcome Home, Abby on Feb 4th. I had ads in three promotional newsletters on the same day. Over 6000 people downloaded the book, and some read the other books in the series. In Kindle Unlimited, authors are paid for the pages read. It was my best month financially since I started this indie adventure in late November 2019.
Baby Mama, Hailey published in April. I have never planned to end with John helping Hailey’s mother. I’m not sure it surprised my readers, but it surprised me!
The spin-off series Love in Laughing Falls is next on my schedule—the books (and a novella about Franklin Hawthorne’s return to town, a reformed man). The characters in the new series were all secondary characters in Those Hawthorne Men.
The series kicks off with Her Unwilling Hero, and it’s on the last revision step. This will be a free book for newsletter subscribers.
To track how long each step in my process takes, I made myself a checklist for the next project. I can note when I send off the manuscript for beta readers, my editor, and the proofreaders. And there’s a spot to note when it comes back to me. In the portions where I am writing or revising, I’ve left room to track my progress.
The rough estimate on another list I made showed six months from the very start of story to publication. But when the manuscript is out of my hands, I can begin the next project. That should reduce the time between books because I will have a head start.
